SENIOR PLANNING

Planning for the future while working on finishing high school requirements can be a challenge. Our Guidance Department is here to help, from guiding you through a graduation plan to helping you register for college and providing resources and ideas for college funding. We encourage all seniors to meet regularly with their counselor; we're armed with the information you need and happy to help.

SENIOR CHECKLIST

Make sure your senior year stays on track with our helpful checklist.

  • Take the ACT at least once.
  • Narrow your list of colleges/universities.
    • Our annual College Day happens every fall and is a great place to gather information on area colleges.
    • We also allow our seniors two college visit days to tour campuses and meet with department representatives. Notify your teachers in advance of your planned visits.
  • Apply for admission to your top college/university contenders.
  • Complete FAFSA, whether or not you think you qualify for financial aid.
  • Search out scholarship opportunities.
    • Review those deadlines! Many deadlines occur before December 1.
    • Never pay for scholarship information. It is readily available online for free.
  • Apply for MTAG, MESG, and HELP (Mississippi scholarship/financial aid programs).
  • If you are not planning to attend Northwest Mississippi Community College, and you took qualifying dual credit or dual enrollment classes, you will need to send a transcript request to the Northwest registrar after graduation. Request your transcript to be sent to the college or university you plan to attend.
